Funders Assessment to Launch New Pediatric Drug in 8 African Markets
Challenge
Multi-stakeholder client seeks to launch new product in 8 countries across East & West Africa. DFI conducted thorough assessment of IFI funding, program priorities and initiatives to strengthen Access and Delivery program efforts.
Approach
- Identified and engaged top health funders in Africa: MDBs, bilateral agencies, foundations, and on innovative financing mechanisms
- Vetted funder receptivity, prioritization to collaborate, funding alignment, timing and application requirements
- Reviewed value chain needs, i.e., funding, value chain elements for early consideration: health skills training, local manufacturing requirements and capacity, deployment and procurement requirements, and map large scale IFI investments (est. $100M+ each program size)
Outcomes
- Increased awareness – and generated demand – of client’s initiative to 30+ funders and partners in the region
- Identified over 10 direct grants and funding opportunities aligned with client priorities (est. $500K/year to $5M/3years)
- Funding application pursuit recommendation according to: budget size, geographic scope (national vs. regional), requirements (direct vs. with local partner; co-financing or in-kind), timing
- Developed a programmatic 3-year Access and Delivery strategy for client tied to product regulatory approval and value chain development for pre-market launch
